Scalp Massage

This is recommended as an aid to curing most scalp ailments. A tight scalp restricts the flow of nutrients. By regularly massaging the scalp you provide the best of all tonics, you will keep your hair in good condition, lustrous and healthy.

Massage the scalp every night, moisten your fingers tips with olive oil or castor oil. Start from the nape of the neck with tiny circular movements, then go to the forehead, across the hairline.

Hair Brushing

Use a wooden natural bristled hair brush as this is an ideal scalp massager, effectively distributing natural oils to the end of your hair. Brushing regularly also removes old hair enabling new hair to take its place, it also clears dandruff and increases circulation.

Dandruff

Papaya: hair is washed with diluted latex skin extract – for the first wash diluted Papaya vinegar mixed with lemon juice is used and left for 20 minutes. The hair is rinsed with diluted papaya vinegar. Massaging fresh papaya pulp into scalp 10 minutes before washing the hair eliminates dandruff.

Essential oils: add 25 drops of essential oils to 100 mis of castle liquid soap and use as a shampoo. Suitable oils are basil, carrot, cypress, eucalyptus, lemon, lime, rosemary, sage and thyme. They can also be used in hair rinses, lotions and treatment oils.

Cold pressed oils: massage a combination of or singular oils such as sweet almond oil, olive oil, jojoba, evening primrose and borage oil into scalp, cover with a piastic shower cap and leave on for at least 6 hours. Wash out by applying shampoo before wetting your hair and adding apple cider vinegar to final rinse water.

Food: dandruff responds very well to vinegar. Mix 1 tablespoon of cider vinegar, 5 drops of thyme, 5 drops eucalyptus, 3 drops sage and 5 drops of carrot essentials oils, and add to 25 mis of spring water. Use about a teaspoon of mixture and massage into your scalp before going to bed. Urine: is massaged into the scalp and left for half an hour to one hour. Then the head is washed with luke warm water only. It is not recommended to use shampoo or soap.

Herbs: bay, basil, burdock, comfrey, cleavers, elderflower, horsetail, lavender, marigold, marjoram nettle, peppermint, rosemary, sage, scented geranium, witch hazel and yarrow. Make up a herbal infusion of any singular or combination of the above herbs. Infusions can be used in shampoos etc as essential oils. As a hair tonic make up 1 litre of herbal infusion and add 125 ml apple cider vinegar and then massage into scalp.

After the hair is washed and rinsed with plain water, then rinse your hair with a can of beer each day. Salt water rinses and freshly squeezed lemon juice massaged into the scalp after shampooing also helps to eliminate dandruff.

Kombucha: tea can be rubbed directly into the scalp. Use kombucha tea as a final rinse.

ALL ABOUT HAIR AND HAIR CARE

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

What is Hair Made Of?

The hair shaft is made up of three layers-the hard outer layer the cuticle of keratin scales, the inner cortex of protein fibres and the central medulla that contains a substance similar to bone marrow and is attached to the hair root in the follicle.

The hair is fed by blood flowing to the follicle, which is why circulation in the scalp is vital for healthy hair. Hair grows at a rate of about 1/2 inch a month, or six inches a year and slows down a little with age. The beauty of the hair depends on a good diet. Since the hair is made from a form of protein, a high protein diet of meat, fish, eggs, cheese, and milk is excellent for hair. The valuable vitamins of a ‘B’ complex , the best source being brewers yeast and liver, calcium, silica, iron, zinc, protein and unsaturated oils. The minerals needed include copper and iron which are found in meat and leafy green vegetables. Iodine is often very low in an average diet, seafood is the best source A good way to treat your hair inside out is to use olive oil dressing on salads.

What Causes Hair Problems?

A poor diet, lack of sleep, stress, hormonal changes, poor elimination, drugs, too much sun, chemical hair care products, perms, hair dyes, over processed hair and lack of scalp massage.

Know Your Hair Type

This is recommended in order that you know which herbs and essential oils to add to your shampoo, conditioners and hair rinses.
